Official: Russia, Zimbabwe may build joint metals plant

HARARE, Mar 15 (PRIME) -- Zimbabwe offers Russia to build a joint metallurgical plant, speaker for the ruling party ZANU-PF Christopher Mutsvangwa told PRIME in an interview released on Wednesday.

He said that a delegation from Russia's Sverdlovsk Region earlier visited the country to discuss joint metals projects.

"We want to establish such a joint facility and we invite Russia, the Sverdlovsk Region, to launch production in our special economic zone to export products to the global markets in the future," Mutsvangwa said.

Zimbabwe is interested in Russian competences in steel production and wants to make oil pipes, equipment and wires. The country sees it beneficial to work with Russian companies in the production of lithium and production and cutting of diamonds.

According to the official, the country wants to purchase oil, fertilizers and agricultural equipment directly from Russia and raise jet purchases.

Mutsvangwa also said that Russia and Zimbabwe could make trade transactions in the national currencies and gold.
